Frankfurt Press Club selects winners

The winners of this year’s International Media Award Frankfurt have now been named. For his documentary film “Steffi Jones – My Life”, author and director Karl-Ernst “Broka” Herrmann has received the International Media Award Frankfurt (IMF) 2010. His report, which was broadcast on ARTE, was selected by a panel of journalists as the best report among all of the competitors. It documents the rise of Frankfurt resident Steffi Jones from the socially marginal neighbourhood of Bonames to become Football World Champion and head of the organising committee for the Women’s Football World Cup 2011 in Germany.

With the second place award, author Karin Ceballos Betancur was honoured for her article in Die ZEIT entitled “Same to you. A defence of Frankfurt on the occasion of the 2008 book fair”. Delving beyond simplistic tourism clichés, the author describes the extraordinary features of the Hessian metropolis and the unique character of the people who live there. 

Michaela Böhm and Stephan Morgenstern took third place with a multimedia article entitled “Die Münchener” which was published on the online portal of the Frankfurter Rundschau. With words and images, the two journalists’ article takes readers down Münchener Street in the colourful neighbourhood near the main train station, pointing out the opportunities for a veritable tour of the world along a distance of just a few hundred yards.

While the winners were looking forward to the award ceremony in the historic Römer, Frankfurt’s medieval town hall, the organisation of the gala evening went into high gear at SWK. And when the awards were presented on October 26 before some 300 guests, the event also marked a brilliant culmination of the work by the agency that serves as the communications conduit for the International Media Award Frankfurt 2010: the most important journalism competition in the region.
